The Burnt Half - Feature Documentary

In documentary filmmaking, sound isn’t just a technical layer — it’s emotional infrastructure. In The Burnt Half, a raw and intimate exploration of life on a bushfire-ravaged island, Watchpost’s in-house sound team shaped the film’s sonic identity from the ground up.

We handled the entire sound post process internally — from editing and cleaning on-the-fly field interviews, to sculpting atmospheres that gave weight to silence, wind, and ash. Every choice was made to enhance the emotional rhythm of the story without overpowering its natural power.

Creating the brutal, haunting world of post-disaster recovery required both sensitivity and precision. Our audio team worked frame by frame to ensure that every breath, rustle, and ambient detail served the story’s emotional core — resulting in a sonic landscape that grounds the film in both reality and feeling.
